South African actor and producer, Shona Ferguson is dead.
Ferguson died on Friday from COVID-19 complications.
Conrad Mwanza, a representative from the Ferguson Foundation confirmed the news to Drum on Friday.
“It’s true, he passed on this afternoon. It’s not easy and the family is dealing with the news. A statement will be out now,” he tells Drum.
In a statement released on behalf of the Ferguson Foundation, the family said he passed away on Friday, 30 July 2021 at noon.
“It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of Mr. Shona Ferguson He passed away at noon today (Friday, 30 July 2021). Mr. Ferguson’s untimely passing was due to Covid-19 related complications, and not a heart operation as reported in the media,” the statement reads.
The family has asked for privacy during this time.
“We ask that you give the family time to process this painful loss, and respect their space during this time. More details will be shared in due course.”
Reacting to Ferguson’s death, Netflix South Africa shared on Instagram: “We are saddened to hear the news of the passing of Shona Ferguson.
“As a fixture in the entertainment industry and a hero of black stories he will be missed. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Once a King, always a King.”
The 47-year-old Batswana-born actor was married to actress and filmmaker Connie Ferguson.
Connie and Shona have been married for 19 years and have been serving couple goals since walking down the isle in 2001. They have two children.
Shona was an actor and producer who had appeared in a number of productions, his most memorable as Jerry on The Queen.
Shona Ferguson (47) and wife Connie Ferguson launched Ferguson Films in 2010 and they have brought the country productions such as The Queen, Rockville, iGazi, The Throne, The Herd, and Kings of Jo’burg, to name a few.
They also run The Ferguson Foundation, dedicated to empowering and supporting disadvantaged individuals in business, education, film, and ultimately building industry leaders.
