Soldiers, DSS Storm UI Over Selection Of VC
The Senate of the University of Ibadan on Wednesday held an election to pick two members that will be part of the Joint Council/Senate Representatives to screen applicants interested in becoming the new vice-chancellor of the 72-year-old institution.
Security agents including soldiers, officers of the Department of State Services stormed the University of Ibadan due to the selection of the new Vice-Chancellor of the University.
They stormed the University Wednesday afternoon, Daily Post report.
The tenure of the incumbent Vice-Chancellor, Professor Idowu Olayinka expires on November 30th.
The new Vice-Chancellor is expected to assume duty on December 1.
The appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor has generated a lot of controversy in the last couple of weeks.
Our correspondent however gathered that the security agents have been deployed to the Trenchard Hall, venue of the announcement of the candidate for the Senate/Selection Board for the incoming VC.
Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and Non-Academic Staff of Universities have mobilised to the venue for the announcement.
