S’Leone Clash: Rohr Recalls Osimhen, Osigwe Gets First Call-Up
Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has called up 24 players for next month’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations double-header qualifiers against Sierra Leone.
The Eagles take on the Leone Stars in Benin City on November 13, before flying to Freetown for the reverse fixture on November 17 at the Siaka Stevens Stadium.
Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who was unavailable for the friendlies against Algeria and Tunisia earlier this month, returns to the squad with Glasgow Rangers’ Joe Aribo, Galatasaray midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo, Club Brugge forward Emmanuel Dennis and Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi.
Rohr handed FC Lugano goalkeeper, Sebastian Osigwe, his first call-up, but there was no space for Genk forward Cyriel Dessers, who made his debut against Tunisia.
Defenders Kenneth Omeruo, Leon Balogun and Chidozie Awaziem, midfielder Alex Iwobi and forwards Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze and Chidera Ejuke were also called up.
FC Porto defender Sanusi Zaidu and Hoffenheim centre-back Kevin Akpoguma made the list after their impressive performances in the recent friendlies.
Seven players, including defender Abdullahi Shehu, keeper Francis Uzoho, midfielders Ramon Azeez, Samson Tijani and forward Paul Onuachu, are on standby.
Players are expected to report at the Protea Hotel Emotan in Benin City November 9.
Victory in both encounters will guarantee Nigeria a place at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
