Nollywood veteran actor, Ramsey Nouah, leads the pack of nominations for the 7th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
The 49-year-old actor cum director has four nominations in different categories for the 2020 edition of the annual event which recognizes outstanding achievements in both film and television in Africa.
He was nominated in the category for Best Actor in a Comedy (Movie or TV Series) for his role in the movies, ‘Merry Men 1’ which also featured comedian Ayo Makun popularly known as AY, Jim Iyke, Iretiola Doyle amongst other star actors.
The other two nominations include Best Actor in a Drama (Movie/TV Series) for his stellar role in the movie, ‘Levi’ and Best Supporting Actor in a Movie or TV Series for his role in the remake of the movie ‘Living In Bondage’
For his directorial debut with the remake of the film ‘Living in Bondage,’ he was nominated in the category of Best Director along with his co-director, Steve Gukas.
It would be recalled that in 2015 Ramsey Nouah secured the rights to the 1992/93 drama thriller, Living in Bondage written by Kenneth Nnebue and Okechukwu Ogunjiofor. The film was produced by Okechukwu Ogunjiofor.
The reason was to do a possible remake of the movie to be filmed in Europe, America, and Nigeria. However, his remake became a sequel titled, Living in Bondage: Breaking Free and released late 2019. It features three of the film’s original actors and veterans of the industry which include Kenneth Okonkwo, Bob Manuel Udokwu, and Kanayo.o.Kanayo repeating their roles while he also played the role of the new cult chief priest.
Nouah who began his acting career in the Nigerian TV soap opera, ‘Fortunes’ and has also played the role of a lover boy in numerous romantic movies won the Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA) for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2010.
Following closely in the nomination pack after Nouah is actress and filmmaker, Toyin Abraham. The actress who is busy with the fourth production in her Alakada series titled, Fate of Alakada has three nominations.
She was nominated twice in the Best Actress in a Comedy (Movie/TV Series) for her exceptional performances in ‘Bling Lagosians’ and ‘Kasanova’ respectively. In the same category, we have Bimbo Ademoye for ‘Looking For Baami’, Funke Akindele for her role in ‘Moms At War’ as well as Ebele Okaro for ‘Smash’
Toyin who started her acting career in 2003 is also in the running for one of the hottest categories of the AMVCA awards which is the category for Best Actress in a Drama (Movie/TV Series) for her role in the movie ‘Elevator Baby’
