A Polytechnic graduate, Olaoye Akintayo was shot dead on Saturday evening by a police officer while unwinding with his friends in an Ekiti hotel, Channels Television can confirm.

The suspected extrajudicial killing comes as the country continues to reckon with the #EndSARS protest, which called for an end to police brutality.

According to a friend of the deceased and other eyewitnesses, the police officer alighted from a Hilux van, entered the hotel premises and the next sound heard were gunshots.

It is not yet clear what triggered the gunshots, which also left another person injured.

The policeman and his other colleague reportedly dumped the victim’s corpse at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital before escaping and leaving the Hilux at the hospital premises.

Olaoye Akintayo was shot dead by a police officer on November 21, 2020.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Sunday Abutu confirmed to Channels Television that the officer, who only followed his principal to the state has been arrested, and an investigation is in progress to unravel the reason for the shooting.

On Sunday, friends of the victim thronged the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital where the survivor was taken and the palace of the Ewi of Ado Ekiti demanding justice and an end to the misuse of firearms.
