PHOTOS: Buhari Flags Off First Crude Oil Drilled From Gombe, Bauchi Kolmani Oil Field

Buhari flagged off the first crude oil drilled from Gombe and Bauchi Kolmani oil fields.

History was made, on Tuesday, in the Northern region of Nigeria as President Muhammadu Buhari supervised the first oil drilling in the region.

The ground-breaking ceremony of the oil refinery in the Bauchi and Gombe States was held today.

This is happening after two years since the resources were discovered at the locations in commercial volume.

Top government officials, including the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, were present to witness the occasion of the Kolmani Oil Prospecting Lease (OPL) 809 and 810 at the Kolmani field site on Tuesday (today), November 22.

A sample of the first crude oil to be drilled from the site was shared online by President Buhari’s Special Assistant on Digital Communications, Bashir Ahmad, who doubles as the Deputy Director, Special Media Projects/New Media, All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

Meanwhile, Ahmad had disclosed earlier that the Kolmani Integrated Development Project phase I will entail an in-situ Oil Refinery of up to 120k barrels/day capacity, a Gas processing plant of up to 500 million standard cubic feet per day, a Power Plant of up to 300MW capacity and a Fertilizer Plant of 2,500 tons per day.

The event was attended by Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu; Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Slyva; and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Mele Kyari.

Others include Governors Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Simon Lalong (Plateau). The Group Managing Director of the New Nigeria Development Company, Shehu Mai-Borno, was also in attendance.

The NNPC had in 2019 announced the discovery of crude oil in the Kolmani River region at the border community between Bauchi and Gombe states.
