President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a new Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammad Abubakar Adamu.
Buhari decorated the new Inspector General of Police at the State House, Abuja on Tuesday.
He was assisted by the immediate past Police IG, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris.
The new IG hails from Nasarawa.
Earlier on Tuesday, the President and cabinet ministers had held an emergency Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja.
The agenda of the meeting, which took place at the Presidential Villa, was unknown.
PUNCH Correspondent had reported earlier that Adamu was sighted at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He had been projected as the possible replacement for the former Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris.
Adamu was seen on Tuesday morning going to the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Abba Kyari, for a meeting.
While Adamu was at the Villa, Idris was with other security chiefs at the Cenotaph of the Unknown Soldier laying a wreath in commemoration of the 2019 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
Adamu’s appointment as the new Inspector-General of Police was without prior announcement by the Presidency.
