Glamtush reports that former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
This online platform understands that he emerged at Labour Party’s Convention and presidential primary held in Asaba, Delta State.
Earlier at the convention, Professor Pat Utomi stepped down for Obi who only joined the party last Friday.
Utomi announced that Obi is a younger aspirant with the capacity to affect the needed change in the Nigerian system.
It was gathered that Utomi was instrumental in Obi joining the Labour Party from the PDP. “Prof Utomi brought Peter Obi to Labour Party in the first place and he has now endorsed him,” a source told SaharaReporters on Monday.
The venue of the primary holding today (Monday) is Orchid Hotels, GRA, Asaba, the state capital.
The 3rd Force Movement under the umbrella of the National Consultative Front, NCFront, had on Sunday called on more leaders of conscience in the country to quickly join the Labour Party, following its adoption by the 3rd Force Movement as the alternative ‘Big Tent’ for the 2023 elections.
The 3rd Force Movement was initiated to create a strong platform to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), both of which have had opportunities to lead Nigeria and failed.
A statement signed by Ms Bilikis Bello, the Communications Executive (National) of the NCFront disclosed this on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Glamtush recalls that Obi, who was a presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, resigned from the PDP and also withdrew from the presidential race on the platform of the party on May 25 blaming recent developments in the party for his defection.
He announced his resignation in a letter titled “Resignation From PDP and Withdrawal from the Presidential Contest” addressed to the PDP National Chairman, dated May 24.
