INEC Declares PDP’s Diri Winner Of Bayelsa Governorship Election

INEC has declared PDP’s Diri winner of the Bayelsa governorship election.

 

Glamtush reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Monday, declared the incumbent Governor, Douye Diri, winner of the Bayelsa governorship election held on Saturday.

The incumbent Governor, Diri,, defeated Chief Timipre Sylva, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and 16 others in the Saturday election.

 

The Returning Officer, Prof Faruq Kuta, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Of Technology, Minna, announced Diri winner of the poll at the collation centre of the election on Monday.

After multiple breaks and adjournments, Kuta said, “That Diri Douye of the PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

 

Diri, who came into power in 2020, got a total of  175,196 votes while Sylva polled 110,108 votes. The figures meant the PDP flagbearer beat his closest rival by  65,088 votes. The Labour Party (LP) scored a total of 905 votes to come a distant third.
