Glamtush reports that Seyi Makinde, Oyo State governor on Tuesday, insisted that the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Iyorchia Ayu, must step down for the party to reflect the national unity the party is preaching.
This online platform understands that Makinde, who spoke at a PDP South-West Stakeholders Forum held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, argued that if the PDP is talking about unity, it must show it through the composition of the national leadership of the party.
Makinde was echoing the position that has been maintained by himself and Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers State; Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and others, who have insisted that the party was skewed in favour of one region against the others and have repeatedly sought a redress.
However, in his welcome address, he described Atiku as “the incoming President of Nigeria in 2023.”
The PDP participants present at the gathering loudly applauded Makinde’s assessment of Atiku.
The truth is that neither our candidate nor our party is the subject of any contention, he declared. But there are challenges that must be brought to the table.
“We are supposed to give hope to our people, we want them to listen to us.
Our party wants to rescue Nigeria and our candidate is a unifier. He wants to restructure Nigeria
“Eight years of the All Progressives Congress have left us sharply divided. The issue is we must practice what we preach. If we want to unify Nigeria, we must unify the PDP first.
“If we want to restructure Nigeria, we must have the willingness to bring inclusivity to the PDP. Do we have the capacity? The answer is a resounding yes.
“The message from the South-West PDP is the South-West is asking that the National Working Committee of the PDP should be restructured.
“We are asking the National Chairman to step down so that the South will be fully included. That is the message.”
