More tributes have continued to pour in for Afenifere spokesman, Yinka Odumakin, who died in the early hours of Saturday.

Odumakin died of COVID-19 complications at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo commiserated with the family of the deceased.

His Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, said: “VP Osinbajo is shocked at the sad news of the death of Mr. Yinka Odumakin and commiserates with his wife, family and associates. He prays that the Lord will comfort the family, and bless his memory always.”

Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu said: “It is with a deep sense of sorrow that I write to commiserate with the family, friends and associates of Late Yinka Odumakin.

“The late Afenifere Publicity Secretary was undoubtedly a great Nigerian, passionate leader and champion of a true Nigeria that would work for everyone.

“As a civil rights activist, he spent his life in the service of humanity and particularly for the emancipation of the Yoruba people.”

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar described Odumakin as a patriot and advocate of good governance, democracy and the rule of law.

Former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose said Odumakin was constantly fighting for justice and equity for all.

“He was a man in total defense of justice and fairness for all. He had a life well spent, not how far, but how well,” he tweeted.

Shehu Sani, a former senator, described Odumakin as a “dogged fighter” and a distinguished journalist.

“We lost an indomitable & irrepressible voice for justice,” he added.

Former Education Minister and advisory board member of Nexford University, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, described him as a “voice of truth”.

She said: “My dear sister ⁦@DrJoeOdumakin⁩ needs all the comfort and grace only God can give at the shocking passing of my friend and brother, Yinka Odumakin.

“Yinka, a man who not only had courage of conviction but ever fearlessly acted on it. He was a Voice of Truth. They never die”

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode said: “I am deeply saddened that we have lost Comrade Yinka Odumakin, one of our brightest & best.

“He was a great warrior who feared nothing and who stood for truth and justice right to the end.”
