One Killed As Yoruba Nation Agitators, Police Clash In Lagos

One person has been killed as Yoruba Nation agitators and police clashed in Lagos.

Glamush reports that a yet-to-be-identified male adult has been killed in a clash between Yoruba Nation agitators and the police in the Ojota area of Lagos State on Monday.

This online newspaper understands that the spokesperson for the police in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the death of the unidentified person.

Commuters ran to safety in the heat of the pandemonium which broke out on Monday morning.

It was gathered that Yoruba Nation agitators came out to demand Yoruba Nation amongst others and the police came out to curtail them, leading to a clash.

A confirmed police source hinted that shortly after the agitators took to the streets, the men of the Lagos State Police Command came out in procession with a detachment of personnel from Rapid Response Squad, State Taskforce and conventional divisional officers.

However, a source told Foundation for Investigative journalism that two groups, suspected to be Oduduwa Peoples Congress and Yoruba Nation agitators, clashed in the early hours of Monday, resulting in one casualty.

The source said police arrived at the scene and shot teargas to disperse the crowd.

“Ojota is up in smoke, police are shooting teargas, and one person is dead. There was a clash between the OPC and Yoruba Nation.”

When contacted by the Punch’correspondent, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said normalcy had been restored.

He said he could not give details at the moment.

“I don’t have the details, once I have the details, I will let you know,” the PPRO said.
