Commuters ran to safety in the heat of the pandemonium which broke out on Monday morning.
It was gathered that Yoruba Nation agitators came out to demand Yoruba Nation amongst others and the police came out to curtail them, leading to a clash.
A confirmed police source hinted that shortly after the agitators took to the streets, the men of the Lagos State Police Command came out in procession with a detachment of personnel from Rapid Response Squad, State Taskforce and conventional divisional officers.
However, a source told Foundation for Investigative journalism that two groups, suspected to be Oduduwa Peoples Congress and Yoruba Nation agitators, clashed in the early hours of Monday, resulting in one casualty.
The source said police arrived at the scene and shot teargas to disperse the crowd.
“Ojota is up in smoke, police are shooting teargas, and one person is dead. There was a clash between the OPC and Yoruba Nation.”
