The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibadan Zonal Office, says it has secured the conviction of five internet fraudsters before a federal high court in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The EFCC said this in a statement issued by its Zonal Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, on Friday.

Uwujaren disclosed that the anti-graft agency secured the convictions on Thursday.

According to the EFCC spokesman, the convicts – Babalola Omogbolahan, Adekoya Peter, Stephen Damilare and Opeogun Felix – were sentenced by Justice Ibrahim Watilat of the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, for their various involvement in internet-related fraud.

The statement further read that one Sodiq Sanni a.k.a Alan Anderson was prosecuted by Justice Muhammed Abubakar of the Federal High Court also in Abeokuta.

He said the convicts pleaded guilty to an amended one-count charge of fraudulent impersonation.

The statement partly read, “Justice Watilat convicted and sentenced Omogbolohan, Damilare and Felix to five months in prison each, while Peter bagged four months for the crime.

“Omogbolohan and Peter were given N100,000 option of fine each, while Felix and Damilare were handed N400,000 and N300,000 option of fine respectively.

“Sanni, having pleaded guilty to an amended one-count charge of fraudulent impersonation, was sentenced to eight months imprisonment without an option of fine by Justice Abubakar.”

The commission added that all the convicts are to return the sums of money they fraudulently obtained from their victims and forfeit all the items recovered from them to the Federal government.
