Nigerian batik and adire textile designer, Nike Okundaye will be enthroned as the Oba Asa Obalufon at the Ogidi Day Festival.
Glamtush reports that a delegation of traditional rulers from across Yorubaland representing the Obalufon dynasty as well as senior councillors of Ile O’odua, Ile-Ife will be in Ogidi on Saturday, June 19, to conduct the enthronement of Her Royal Highness, Dr (Mrs.) Nike Davies Okundaye as the Oba Asa Obalufon.
The enthronement will hold during the Ogidi Day Festival holding on that day.
The Alayemore Obalufon of Ido-Osun, Olojudo Adedapo Aderemi announced this in a statement issued by his palace.
Oba Aderemi said Okundaye was being elevated to the exalted throne in appreciation of her untiring efforts at lifting up Yoruba culture.
Oba Aderemi said the appointment of the new Oba Asa had been announced during the recent events marking her 70th birthday in Lagos.
He said it was a mark of great honour for her and the Ogidi community that the enthronement would be holding in her home town.
The traditional rulers would be joined on the occasion by His Royal Majesty, the Obaro of Kabba and the Chairman, Okun Traditional Council, Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi, His Royal Majesty, the Olujumu of Ijumu, Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni and other royal fathers from across Okunland.
She was born in 1951 in Ogidi, Kogi State, in North-Central Nigeria and was brought up amidst the traditional weaving and dyeing as practised in her home town.
Her parents and great grandmother were musicians and craftspeople, who specialised in the areas of cloth weaving, adire making, indigo dyeing and leather.
