1. Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has advised Nigerians against supporting his former political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023. The governor warned that the country would break if APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari.

2. The Central Bank Governor, CBN, Godwin Emefiele has said the United Arab Emirates is threatening visa ban due to the funds of airlines trapped in Nigeria. He told House of Representatives leadership that the apex bank released $110 million to the foreign airlines in August and is due to release another $120 million on 31st of October.

3. Prof Paul Ananaba, SAN, has faulted State governors over the inability of the National Assembly to progress with the intended constitutional amendment. He said the lack of independence of the State legislatures is the real cause of the snag in the constitution amendment process.

4. The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Monday reserved judgment in an application by the Federal Government seeking a stay of execution of its judgment that ordered the release of the Biafra nation agitator, Nnamdi Kanu. Justice Haruna Tsanami, who presided over the hearing of the application, announced that a date for delivery of judgment would be communicated to the parties when ready. The FG told the Court that Kanu is a huge threat to national security and must be kept in detention to have relative peace.

5. The presidential candidate of Accord Party (AP), Prof Chris Imumolen has said if Nigeria was a company, it would have been sold along with its entities to pay its debts. He said this while decrying that over 100 percent of the country’s revenue is being used to service debts, adding that the country’s next president would face the toughest job ever.

6. Rishi Sunak on Monday emerged the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. This was following the resignation of Liz Truss. Sir Graham Brady announced that only one nomination was received by the 1922 Committee for the new leader of the party, and backed by 100 MPs. He, therefore, declared Sunak as the next party leader.

7. Two persons have been confirmed dead as gridlock extends to the Berger area after a diesel-laden tanker crashed and exploded at Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State. The driver lost control while moving inward Ogun State.

8. A former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke has made a final forfeiture of two Abuja properties and two luxury cars to the Federal Government. Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday ordered the forfeiture. The two properties are located at Plot 1854 Mohammed Mahashir Street and No. 6, Aso Drive in Abuja’s highbrow Asokoro and Maitama Districts, respectively, and are valued at $2,674,418 and N380m.

9. The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike on Monday officially removed the picture of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar from the State’s campaign poster. The Governor alleged that Atiku wants to sideline him in his [Wike] own State by picking members of the presidential council without the contribution of the governor. Wike said he will only campaign for people who have asked him to do so.

10. President Muhammadu Buhari has given the Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, 90 days to develop a comprehensive plan of action for the prevention of flood disaster in Nigeria. The President’s directive was conveyed to the minister in a letter signed by his Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari. Buhari ordered the minister to coordinate with the ministries of environment and transportation, as well as State governments to develop the plan.
