1. Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke has filed a libel suit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Attorney-General of the Federation. In the suit, Diezani is accusing the first and second defendants – the EFCC and the AGF – of writing and publishing “false and defamatory reports about her of being a corrupt, dishonest, decadent public officer.”

2. Gunmen on Friday kidnapped a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Mathias Opara. He was abducted along Ejemekwuru-Ogbaku Road, a highway linking Oguta and Mbaitoli local government areas of Imo State. The priest was said to be in charge of Man of Order and Discipline of the Catholic Archdiocese, Owerri.

3. A four-man robbery gang on Friday carted away a trader’s $11million in the Oke-Sokori area of Abeokuta, Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State in an operation that lasted three minutes. Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said operatives of the command were already on the trail of the criminals.

4. President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday commissioned a 3000-capacity ultra-modern custodial centre in Janguza, Kano state. Buhari during the commissioning, stated that his administration embarked on the construction of six such mega custodial facilities in the six geopolitical zones of the country.

5. Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, on Friday dissolved his cabinet with a caveat that they would still remain handy till May 29 inauguration. Yahaya made this disclosure during a valedictory meeting at the council chamber, Government House.

6. Reports emerged on Friday that the Boeing 737-800 series aircraft which the Federal Government flew into Abuja for the unveiling of Nigeria Air belongs to Ethiopia Airlines. The aircraft took off from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at 9:55am on Friday and landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 12:43 pm.

7. President Muhammmadu Buhari, on Friday, took the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on a familiarisation tour of Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja. The symbolic event ahead of Monday’s presidential inauguration ceremony was carried out after the duo had observed Jum’aat prayers at the State House Mosque.

8. The Federal Government has declared Monday May 29 work free to commemorate the inauguration of the 16th democratically elected President. Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, made the declaration in Abuja on Friday on behalf of the Government.

9. The police in Bayelsa State have arrested 22 suspected robbers and cultists. The new Commissioner of Police, Romokere Ibani, stated this during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Yenagoa on Friday.

Gunmen have killed the traditional ruler of Orsu Obodo community in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, Eze Victor Ijioma, and the traditional prime minister of Mgbele community in the same Oguta LGA. It was gathered that the two traditional rulers were murdered in separate attacks on Thursday by the gunmen.

10. Benue State University, BSU, chapter of the Academic Staff Union of University, ASUU, has commenced indefinite strike. BSU ASUU Chairman, Dr Kwaehfan Tarmombo, who confirmed the development, said the action was due to “several problems”, with the university administration.
