NFF Shortlist Three Coaches To Take Charge Of Super Eagles

NFF has shortlisted three coaches to take charge of the Super Eagles.

Glamtush reports that Emmanuel Amuneke, Domenec Torrent and Antonio Conceicao are believed to be the three coaches of the final shortlist for the Super Eagles head coach role.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have sent the names to the executive committee by the technical committee.

“Torrent is the number one candidate among the foreign coaches with Conceicao the second choice,” the source told Daily Post.

“For the local coaches, Amuneke has the best CV and experience. He is far ahead of his colleagues.

“Majority of the board members are in support of a foreign coach, while others want a local lad.

“So, either of these three men, all things being equal will get the job at the end of the day.”

Torrent once worked as an assistant to Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, while Conceicao, 62, is no stranger to African football, having previously managed Cameroon.

He led the Indomitable Lions to a third-place finish at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil.

Since leaving the Cameroon position in 2022, Conceicao has been without a job.

Amunike is the only local coach on the shortlist. He excelled as coach of Nigeria’s U17 team, leading them to glory at the FIFA U17 World Cup.

He also led Tanzania to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations – their first in nearly 40 years.

However, Amunike’s record with Egypt’s Misr Lel Makkasa and Zambia’s Zanaco left much to be desired.

The 53-year-old coach also failed to help the Nigeria U20 team qualify for the AFCON in 2017.
