The Ondo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Thursday said it had seized 228 kilogram of cannabis sativa also known as Indian hemp in Ondo State, and arrested one as a suspect.
The suspect, Ayodele Osuya, was arrested with the cannabis by the men of the anti-drug agency in Akure, the state capital.
The state commander of the agency, Mr Kayode Raji, stated this at the command’s headquarters in Akure.
According to the commander, the men of the command had been on the trail of Osuya for a long time.
He added that the arrest was made on Wednesday, March 29, 2023.
He said, “We have been on his trail for a very long time and at a time, we also suspected that he was very suspicious and almost about to get wind he was being trailed, so we lie low.
“We used alot of characters and shade so that our identity will be concealed, but at the end of the day, on the 29th of March, he was nabbed at a place called quarter guard area of in Akure, Ondo state here.
“And a compressed cannabis, carefully stacked in the booth of the car, it’s about 309 pieces of compressed cannabis, which weight about 228kg of cannabis, which is a huge number.
He added cultivating in the act of illegal drug “is evil and we should all steer clear of it. So, it is either you get out of the state or you get out of the business.”
