NAOSRE Reiterates Media Supports For Security Agencies At Maiden Meeting

Members of the National Association of Online Security Reporters (NAOSRE), on Thursday, July 16, congregated at its maiden meeting where perspectives of the association’s synergy with government and corporate security architecture were marshaled for balanced reportage and understandable relationships.

In his welcome remarks, the association’s President, Samson Oki, emphasized the central objectives of NAOSRE and urged members to focus on its core mission maintaining that the association must professionally present unbiased daily and hourly information to the public.

“In the discharge of our duties, we must place national interest far and above our personal interest. We must be guided by our core objectives of presenting balanced security reports to the public. For a safe environment, operatives need cooperation which can only be achieved through citizens’ sustainable confidence and trust. We have a role to play to make that happen being that we are the custodian of information. What we present to the public is what they will consume,” Oki said.

The association’s Vice President, Favour Benson admonished members to shun the temptation of twisting reports including washing dirty linen in the market square saying “You are all ambassadors of this noble association. Any unprofessional conduct in the discharge of our duties will undermine our integrity. We must try, at all times, to guide against that,” she advised.

While assuring members of transparency, Benson disclosed that the association’s engagement with security formation begins on Thursday, July 30 with a virtual conference which will have in attendance former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, Lagos Police Commissioner, Hakeem Odumosu, heads of communication offices across military and civil society.

She however said that the conference which has the theme “TACKLING INSECURITY IN NIGERIA AMIDST COVID-19: THE NIGERIA EXPERIENCE,” would be an opportunity for experience sharing on evolving attitudes and corresponding security challenges.
