Glamtush reports that the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) will on Friday shut the Yola International Airport in Adamawa State over the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
This online platform gathered that the Zone E chapter of NANS which is to effect the shutdown of the Yola Airport, says it will be in line with NANS nationwide ‘Occupy The Airport’ protest over the lingering ASUU strike.
A request letter to the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police by the NANS Zone E Coordinator, Alhassan Adam, indicated that the protest will begin at the Airport Gate by 9 am.
In the letter, NANS asked the state police commissioner, CP Sikiru Akande, to protect its members to prevent hoodlums from turning the intended peaceful protest into something else.
The letter read in part: “In line with the directives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to shut down all the airports in Nigeria till ASUU calls off the strike, Zone E will not be exempted, and we have scheduled our date of protest on Friday 23rd September 2022.
“Sir, we deem it very necessary to write to your office and request for security cover in order to prevent the protest from being hijacked by hoodlums.”
