Adeborile was abducted on Saturday at her residence in Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area, Ondo State about 10:00 p.m. Adeborile who is also the wife of the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Igbotako Ward II, Chief Babatunde Adeborile, was kidnapped by at least eight gunmen.
Oba Akinruntan who was ranked the second richest monarch in Africa and first in Nigeria is also the founder of Obat Oil, one of Nigeria’s largest privately-held oil trading companies.
According to an anonymous eyewitness, “I was in my house when I heard gunshots. I thought they were armed robbers; I scampered for safety and started praying. I later learnt that eight gunmen took mama into a wait ing vehicle and escaped before the police came,” he told NAN.
Residents said the gun wielding hoodlums, who stormed the town in Toyota Camry car, shot sporadically into the air to scare aware the people before taking her in their vehicle and speeding away to an unknown destination
Chief Solomon Bitire, the Caretaker Chairman, Okititipupa LG, confirmed the incident, saying that he would meet the Commissioner of Police on the matter. “The incident is true. The commissioner of police is aware of the matter. I will be meeting him over the matter,” Bitire said.
Mr Isaac Eke, the Commissioner of Police, also confirmed the story. He said investigation is on going to unravel those behind the abduction. “We received a report on the matter and we are on top of the situation,” Eke said.
The abduction of Mrs Aderibole made it the second high profile kidnapping that occurred in the town in recent time as the mother of billionaire businessman, Mr Jimoh Ibrahim was kidnapped in the same community.
