Minimum Wage: Ogun Workers Express Disappointment Over Gov Abiodun’s Failure To Pay

 

Civil and public servants in Ogun State have expressed disappointment in Gov Dapo Abiodun over his failure to effect the payment of the new minimum wage and arrears of January and February salaries.

Daily Post reports that the workers said the action of Gov Abiodun contradicts the spirit of the agreement reached with them on the subject matter.

The workers, under the auspices of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ogun State chapter, blamed Abiodun’s government for what they described as a persistent attitude to renege on promises and agreements without consultation with Organized Labour, especially on issues affecting the well-being of its members; saying that it was not only worrisome but also disturbing.

In a letter addressed to the Governor, dated March 30, and signed by the duo of Comrades Emmanuel Bankole and Ayuba Olatunji, who are the State Chairman and Acting Secretary respectively, the workers said: “We are through this medium conveying the displeasure and disappointment of the entire civil and public servant in the state about the inability of the state government to commence the payment of the new minimum wage and areas for January and February with March salary.”

According to the letter with reference number: NLC/OGSC/HE/DLC/12/2020, Ogun NLC threatened that: “The Organised Labour in the state would further review the development with its various contributions and respond appropriately in the days ahead.”

Efforts to reach the Chief Press Secretary to Gov Abiodun, Kunle Somorin, were unsuccessful as calls to his line were not replied.
