Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Mercy Johnson-Okojie has been appointed as a special adviser to gov Okpebholo.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Musa Ikhilor, Secretary to the State Government on Thursday in Benin.

Johnson-Okojie, has formally accepted her appointment as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy to the Governor of Edo State, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve.

In a statement released on Friday, she thanked the executive governor of the state, Monday Okpebholo, for the trust and confidence reposed in her.

“I am deeply honoured and sincerely grateful to His Excellency… for the trust and confidence reposed in me with my appointment as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy,” she said.

Describing the appointment as more than a title, the actress-turned-public official noted that it represents a call to connect with the people, listen to their concerns, and advocate purposefully on their behalf.

Johnson-Okojie affirmed her alignment with Governor Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda, which focuses on responsive and practical governance as well as sustainable development across the state.

She pledged to approach the role with humility, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to service, emphasizing that the position is centered on amplifying the voices of Edo residents and strengthening civic participation.

“To the great people of Edo State: this role is about you—your voices, your stories, and your participation in governance. Together, we will deepen civic engagement, strengthen trust, and advance a people-centered Edo where every voice truly counts,” she stated.

The appointment is seen as part of the state government’s broader effort to enhance public engagement and communication between citizens and the administration.

Johnson-Okojie concluded by thanking supporters for their goodwill, declaring, “The journey continues. The work begins now.”
