The management of Lead-Forte Gate Schools, Lagos, Nigeria, has announced a plan to hold its 7th biennial inter-house sports.
The event is scheduled to hold on February 2, at the Unilag Sports Complex, Akoka, Lagos.
Speaking at the media brief, the school principal, Mr Olubunmi Dosunmu remarked that Lead-Forte Gate Schools is a group of educational institutions comprising Creche, Preschool, Primary, College, and Sixth Form founded in 2002 to nurture and train tomorrow’s leaders. The school runs an integrated curriculum: Nigerian, British, and American curricula as such the curriculum goes beyond the lessons taught in the classroom. It encourages our pupils/students to be independent in their judgments, take initiative, develop courage, use their intelligence to make up their minds and be objective when making decisions.
Mr Dosumu further remarked that “at Lead-Forte Gate Schools, we are poised to deliver standard and qualitative education in a serene, conducive, and friendly environment. We offer a unique environment to parents, pupils, and students.”
Events listed for the inter-house sports include 100m, 200m, 400m, and 4x100m relay for the College; and 50m, 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay for Primary.
Also speaking at the event was the School Business Manager, Mrs Sylvia Nwaka, who stated that the school curriculum does not only value academic success but also encourages the identification and development of talents of all kinds; whether in drama, music, sports or arts.
“Our belief is that for a child to have a total qualitative education, his/her hidden talents must be explored. This will make the child develop a positive attitude towards life and learning, Mrs Nwaka, affirmed.
Participating Houses in this year’s edition are Green (Jade) House, Red (Garnet) House Blue (Sapphire) Houses, and Yellow (Onyx) Houses.
The last edition was in 2022 and Green (Jade) House came top in the overall competition.
The School sports coordinator and coach, Mr Komolafe Shina, informed the Press that the goal of the school is “to create a community in which each boy or girl can discover and develop his or her skills/talents which will make the individual an effective and useful member of the community”. He further noted that the sporting event is designed to build learners’ physical and intellectual aptitude as well as assist them to discover their potential and harness their innate talents.
He added that this year’s edition (7th) will be graced by renowned sports personalities like Chief (Mrs.) Falilat Ogunkoya, M.O.N and Mrs Bose Kaffo M.O.N (5-Time Olympian| Level 2 High-Performance Coach (ITTF) as special guests. Also expected to grace the occasion is the Veteran Sports Journalist/analyst, On-air personality, Mr Yomi Opakunle, as a guest of honour.
According to Coach Komolafe, more than 10 other Schools had been invited to partake in this year’s edition.
