The Lagos State Police Public Relation officer, Chike Godwin Oti, has been promoted to the rank of Chief Superintendent of police. The promotion according to his close allies, it’s a well-deserved one.
“The Public Relation Officer is indeed leaving up to his mettle; having being found worthy of promotion by the police service commission is not coming as surprise to us “some journalist have asserted.
Since he became the PRO, Oti, made sure that the public is regularly carried along about the activities of the command under the leadership of Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi.
He took over from Olarinde Famous-Cole, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, in November 2017.
Oti is from Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. He enlisted into the police on May 18, 1992 as a Cadet Sub-Inspector of Police and trained at the Nigeria Police Academy, Kano.
He holds a Bsc (Hons) in Business Administration from the University of Lagos and is married with four children.
Before now, he had worked in the Operations Department of the Lagos State Police Command where he was the Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-fraud Section of the Zone 2 CIID, Onikan, Lagos from 2015 to 2017, Operations Officer, Department of Operations, Lagos State Police Command from 2010 to 2015 and lecturer, Police College Ikeja from 2006 to 2010.
On the international scene, Oti was a lecturer at the National Police Training Academy, Liberia from 2007 to 2009 under the auspices of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Liberia.
Meanwhile, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi had on Monday redeployed officer and men in charge of the Anti-Cultism Squad over alleged unprofessional conducts and corruption.
According to CSP Oti, the reorganization of the squad was necessitated by the unprofessional conducts of its personnel and corruption in the unit.
He said that the unit was very crucial in the fight against cultists and cultism in the state.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr. Edgal Imohimi, has redeployed the Officer-in-Charge of the Squad, SP Godwin Agbegbe, while CSP Akaninyene Etuk has been posted to take over from him.
“In the same vein, all members of the squad were relieved of their duty posts and have been directed to report to the Lagos State Police Headquarters for debriefing.
“Imohimi, warns that the same treatment awaits any other unit in the command that is working at cross-purposes with the fundamental objectives of the Nigeria Police Force,” he said.
Oti added that all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Head of Departments were enjoined to increase supervision of their men in order to ensure non-violation of the police Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
Further, the Public relation officer urged members of the public with useful information about the activities of cultists in any part of the state to reach CSP Etuk on 08034448617.
It would be recalled that CP Edgal had on Sept. 3, 2017, sacked, Adejobi Akinade, the Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cultism Unit of the command over alleged corruption.
