Lagos State Police Arrests Driver For Diverting Employer’s N10m Worth Of Goods

A distributor to international brewery company in Lagos, manufacturers of beer must have every cause to tell their experience after going through the harrowing ordeal from their employee who initially had proven to be someone worthy to be trusted and then ended up being a criminal.

Their travail begins after taking a decision to employ one Dominic Nege as their driver. Following their decision, the distribution company immediately profiles Nege unknown to them that all the information he provided turned out to be false in addition to the one his guarantor provided.

However, things begin to fall apart when he assumed his duty as a driver and was assigned a route from its origin to bonny camp destination in Victoria Island. He was said to have loaded 143 crates of beer liquid contents in bottle valued at ten million, three hundred naira. However, the suspect diverted the entire goods heading to another destination and switch off his mobile phone.

According to the Lagos State spokesperson, Mr. Chike Oti, this necessitated the police to  commence investigation into the case where the intelligent components of the command was mobilized to assist operatives of Federal State Anti-robbery Squad (FSARS) with necessary information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect.

He said all efforts paid off after the said suspect was traced to Markudi in Benue state where during interrogation, Nege led detectives to Sangotedo area of Ibeju Lekki where the Mitsubishi Canter truck with Reg No JJJ-873-XJ was abandoned after  disposing of the goods items, adding that investigation is still in progress.

The Lagos state commissioner police, Mr Imohimi Edgal while conducting journalists round some suspected criminal, however, seized the opportunity to request parents at all time to be wary of those pretending to be a friend and unknown to them, are having sinister motives. He made this remark while narrating how some kidnappers who worked as waiters, unfortunately, turned out to be the killer within.

Narrating what transpired, Imohimi said the command received a complaint from Mary Chidi in Ebute-Metta alleging that one Meshrack Felix who is currently working as a waiter in her restaurant have abducted her three-year-old child, Chisom Chidi and took him to another destination. She also claimed that the same waiter after two days of disappearance of her son sent a message to her phone requesting her to pay six hundred thousand (N600, 000) as ransom and that if she does not comply, the victim would be killed.

“It was based on this development that I directed operatives of the anti-kidnapping squad to investigate and ensure that the victim is rescued and the suspect arrested. The squad went into action and covertly located the suspects at Lokpanta Autonomous community of umu-Nneochi in Abia State where the two suspects that adopted Chisom and the other that provided an account through which the expected ransom is said to be paid was arrested,” he said.

The suspects, however, regretted their misdeeds when asked the reason for their action. “I kidnapped the boy alone and demanded the ransom so that I can get money to buy equipment for my welding job. I am a welder by profession but there is no money for me to start on my own business,” Meshrack said.

Chinecherem who provided the bank account said, “I am a trainee fashion designer in Imo state. My elder brother Meshrack called me to send my bank account to him so he can send me N4000 for feeding. That was how he got my bank account. When I went to the village and saw the boy with him, he told me that the boy is his son. I don’t know anything about the kidnapping.”
