Glamtush reports that Alexander McQueen’s creative director, Sarah Burton who designed Kate Middleton’s famous royal wedding dress is leaving the Britishafter her final Paris Fashion Week show later this month, the brand announced Monday.
Burton, 49, worked alongside Alexander McQueen for more than a decade before his February 2010 death and was appointed director of the label that spring, less than a year before she designed the royal’s iconic wedding gown.
Along with the long-sleeved lace dress the Princess of Wales wore for her April 2011 wedding to Prince William, Middleton has donned countless McQueen creations over the years, with the label becoming her go-to designer for formal occasions and less casual events alike.
Burton is the second royal dress designer to part ways with their fashion house in recent years; Meghan Markle’s wedding gown designer, Clare Waight Keller, left Givenchy in 2020 after just three years with the label.
Burton shared her gratitude to the “incredible team at Alexander McQueen” in a statement, writing the fashion house has been her “home for the past 26 years.”
She also paid tribute to McQueen himself, saying, “He taught me so much and I am eternally grateful to him.
“I am looking forward to the future and my next chapter and will always carry this treasured time with me,” Burton concluded.
