Glamtush reports that the Society of Digital Newspaper Owners of Nigeria (SDNON) has announced with concern the sudden and mysterious disappearance of journalist Precious Eze, a dedicated member of SDNON and the publisher of Precious Eze’s blog.
According to the limited information available as of press time, it has been reported that on Monday morning, at about 1 a.m., operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly stormed the residence of Precious Eze and apprehended him. Shockingly, no details have been provided regarding his current whereabouts.
Disturbingly, all attempts to reach Precious Eze have proven futile, as his phone has been switched off since the reported incident.
Concerns are growing among colleagues, friends, and family members as the circumstances surrounding his arrest and subsequent disappearance remain shrouded in uncertainty.
Wale Onifade, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of SDNON, expressed grave concern over the incident, stating, “The unlawful arrest and disappearance of a journalist of Precious Eze’s caliber are deeply troubling and a direct assault on the principles of press freedom. It is disheartening to witness the erosion of the space for journalists to perform their constitutional duties without fear of intimidation or persecution.”
SDNON calls on the relevant authorities to provide immediate and transparent information regarding the whereabouts and well-being of Precious Eze. We urge a swift and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his arrest to ensure justice is served.
In light of these events, SDNON emphasizes the importance of upholding the fundamental principles of a free press and the protection of journalists who play a vital role in society by providing unbiased information to the public.
SDNON stands in solidarity with the family and colleagues of Precious Eze during this challenging time and call on all media organizations, civil society groups, and well-meaning individuals to join in demanding answers and the safe return of the missing journalist.
