Questions are the bedrock of understanding, and even the Bible admonishes us: “Ask, and it shall be given to you.” It is in this spirit of inquiry that I write this article.

On Sunday, 22 December 2024, I had the privilege of visiting Ilogbo Ekiti in Ido-Osi Local Government Area. My mission was to gauge the sentiments of the community and assess the broader implications of an upcoming landmark event—the visit of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

I embarked on this journey alongside Barrister Olu Aluko, Technical Advisor to Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on Strategic Engagement. Our insightful discussions with local leaders, including Pastor Tunde Abdulahi, the RCCG Regional Pastor in Ekiti, illuminated the multifaceted potential of this visit.

While many may interpret this event purely through a spiritual lens, it is also a profound opportunity for religious tourism and economic growth. Pastor Adeboye’s visit is projected to draw over 10,000 attendees, including RCCG members, devotees from across Nigeria, and international visitors

The convergence of thousands in Ilogbo Ekiti is not just a moment of prayer and worship; it is a catalyst for economic activity. The event promises a surge in patronage for local businesses, including:Hotels and accommodations: Offering lodging for visitors. Restaurants and food vendors: Providing meals and refreshments.
Transport services: Facilitating the movement of attendees.

This influx of visitors offers local entrepreneurs an unparalleled opportunity to showcase their products and services, ultimately boosting the town’s economy.

To ensure the smooth execution of this monumental event, the Ilogbo Ekiti Development Roundtable Initiative, led by Rt. Hon. Tunji Orisalade, has partnered with government officials and community leaders. They have focused on: upgrading transportation networks.Enhancing accommodations for visitors.Coordinating security measures to ensure safety.

Rt. Hon. Orisalade, a former Deputy Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, emphasized, “Events of this magnitude require thorough planning to ensure attendees leave spiritually fulfilled and with a positive impression of Ilogbo Ekiti’s warm hospitality.”

Pastor Adeboye’s visit has already amplified Ilogbo Ekiti’s profile as a budding hub for religious tourism. Beyond the immediate economic gains, the media coverage and online buzz surrounding this event present an opportunity to highlight the town’s cultural heritage.

For instance, the Ilogbo Development Roundtable Initiative is showcasing unique local attractions, such as the iconic Opeoloriyeye—a legendary palm tree with 42 heads—alongside other exotic tourism sites. By intertwining spiritual significance with cultural tourism, Ilogbo Ekiti can attract a steady stream of visitors, fueling long-term economic growth.

Religious gatherings like this foster unity, cultural exchange, and a deeper appreciation of Ekiti’s heritage. From local cuisine to traditional arts and crafts, the event allows Ilogbo Ekiti to present its rich cultural offerings to a diverse audiences

Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s visit is undeniably a spiritual milestone. However, its value transcends the religious realm, offering a transformative opportunity for economic rejuvenation through religious tourism. With effective planning and community engagement, Ilogbo Ekiti can turn this event into a lasting legacy of growth and prosperity.

The countdown has begun. On Monday, 23 December 2024, let us seize the moment and reap the immense benefits this event brings. Be in Ilogbo Ekiti—it’s an experience you won’t want to miss!
