The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has banned the use of commercial vehicles for patrol and other security duties.
Arase in a statement issued on Thursday, September 3, in Abuja by the Force spokesperson, Olabisi Kolawole, ordered “police commands and formations” to “immediately stop the use of commercial vehicles/vehicles painted in known states’ commercial colours for police operations and patrol duties.”
The new directive is due to “enormous negative consequences associated with such practices as complained by members of the public.”
“The IGP further warned that abuse of this order by any police unit will attract severe sanctions,” the statement concludes.
It is well known that sometimes mobsters also use commercial buses to operative on the guise of being police officers.
