I met Richard two years ago at a family friend’s wedding reception. We sat next to each other on the same table. As the reception progressed we got talking since it was obvious that we were the only guest on that table without company. He was charming and also fun to be.
He took my phone number and promised to give me a call. I hadn’t even gotten home when my phone rang. Immediately, I heard his voice, I knew he was the one.
After a few calls and two dinner dates, he candidly told me he had falling in love with me. “Mary, I have falling in love with you. Please give me a chance in your life and I promise to make you happy,” he pleaded.
“I wouldn’t think of dating you if there was a woman in my life. I am very much single. I started developing feelings for you since the first day I saw you,” he added.
Richard held my hands and expressed his desire to start a family with me soon. I was overjoyed. Any woman will easily fall for him because he is not only fun to be with, he is also charming, caring, loving and a giver.
Richard showered me with lots of love, gifts, and money. He also made sure I and my family lacked absolutely nothing. Four months later on my birthday he proposed and I gleefully accepted.
But everything changed the day Jackie, an old classmate saw us together at a shopping mall. I noticed that she was quite shocked to see me and Richard together but she had to play smart about it. “Babe is he your husband?” she whispered into my ears as we hugged.
With all smiles, I said, “He’s my fiancé,” And then she said, “His face looks familiar. I think I remember where I have seen this face before.”
“Where?” I questioned.
She told me we cannot talk to Richard present. But insisted we hook up soon as there is something important I need to know. We exchanged phone numbers. I gave her a call that same evening and we fixed an appointment.
I became restless as I sensed that whatever she wanted to tell me was very important. Three days later, I paid her a visit at home. Jackie informed me that Richard was married to one of her childhood friends. I was shocked to my bone marrow. She explained that although she couldn’t attend their wedding, however, she had seen their family photo with Imelda, his wife.
She disclosed that Richard has been married for six years and his wife lives in Enugu with their two kids (two boys) and she’s even pregnant with their third child while he lives and works in Abuja. She noticed that I was a bit doubtful so she called Imelda and put it on speaker. Immediately she dialed the number, their family photo was displayed. In the course of their discussion, Imelda told Jackie that Richard left Enugu some days ago after spending three days with them. She sounded very excited as she kept thanking God for the wonderful husband and family God has blessed her with.
That was when it occurred to me that every month Richard told me he was travelling on an official assignment, it was to go and see his family.
How can this man be this evil? He hid his marital life so well – no wedding band, family photos or anything to show he’s a married man. The truth is that I loved him very much. I never expected he could hurt me this way. I was pained and heartbroken.
When I summoned the courage to question him about his wife and kids, of course, he lied. But when I showed him photos of his wedding and family as evidence that was when he opened up. However, he lied that they are about getting divorced. But I knew deep down that he was lying through his teeth just to cover up is deceitful act.
Well, since I didn’t want to be labeled a home breaker or ‘strange woman’, I ended my relationship with Richard with so much difficulty. But then, a few weeks later, I discovered that I was already six weeks pregnant. I really don’t know if I should tell him about my pregnancy or not? Or better still have an abortion.
