How I battled Depression After My Marriage Crashed – Iyabo Ojo

Popular Nollywood actress cum businesswoman, Iyabo Ojo has opened up on how she battled depression after her marriage crashed.

The mother of two who had a live video session on Instagram on Saturday opened up on motherhood and depression.

On her battle with depression over her failed marriage, she said, “Anytime I was alone in my room, I’d always say to myself ”Iyabo Ojo, you’ve failed, you are ugly, how can you have a child and you’d be this skinny before you had a child you were thick.

“Now you need to lighten up your skin and even if you have a tattoo you are still ugly because no one is going to marry you, no one is going to accept you. Your mom had a failed marriage and you also have a failed marriage.”

She added that in between her sad/low moments, she might receive a call and she would try to sound happy over the phone but as soon as the call drops, she’d fall back into her situation.

She said she didn’t want love from anybody and even people who wanted to show her love, she’d push away.

Iyabo also said her strength during those stages were her kids. She was happy seeing them and she vowed to give them the world.

Recall the actress once proffered advice on broken marriages even as she stressed that her failed marriage had nothing to do with her acting profession. She said the reason why her ex-husband married her was because she was pregnant for him. She also added that there are various reasons people get married.

Furthermore in her video on Saturday, the mum of two offered a word of advice for some married women who are scared of leaving an abusive marriage.

Iyabo Ojo opined that many women have continued to suffer abuses in their marriages because they are too lazy to walk away and are undetermined to face the consequences of their actions.

She said: “Women are always afraid of walking away from bad relationships because they’re lazy. A bad marriage is a bad marriage no matter how you want to paint it.”

According to Ojo, she is overwhelmed with complaints from women in abusive marriages who are seeking her advice concerning their next line of action after they have endured abuses for a long time in their marriages.

The actress, using herself as an example, enjoined women to outline a survival plan when they sense that their marriage is about to hit the rocks.
