How comedian Baba De Baba was arrested for cyberbullying May Yul-Edochie has been disclosed by her lawyer.
Glamtush reports that Nollywood actress and entrepreneur, May Yul Edochie, has taken legal action against comedian and content creator Chidi Uzoma, popularly known as Baba De Baba or Uncle Baba, for alleged cyberbullying and defamatory remarks.
According to a statement from May’s legal team, Uncle Baba was arrested on charges of cyberstalking and cyberbullying after weeks of monitoring and a strategic operation by law enforcement.
Disclosing the events leading to the arrest, the lawyer said, “On December 12, 2024, we sent Uncle Baba a cease-and-desist notice, warning him to stop cyberstalking Ms. Mary Yul-Edochie. He ignored the warning and escalated his attacks. Another warning was issued on December 17, but instead of complying, he boasted about being untouchable and extended his harassment to us and a court official who tried to serve him a summons.
“On January 9, 2025, we filed a criminal petition against him. Over the last two weeks, his movements and communications were tracked to aid the police in locating him. Finally, we devised a plan to lure him into police custody by offering him a fake endorsement deal.
“Believing he was being hired as a brand ambassador for ₦10 million plus allowances, he agreed to meet us at 11:00 AM to sign the contract and receive an advance payment. When he arrived, he was arrested as soon as he reached for the pen to sign the document. He is now in police custody and undergoing processing.”
The lawyer criticized Uncle Baba for ignoring legal warnings and failing to seek proper legal advice before escalating the situation.
Baba De Baba’s accusations and public harassment of May have drawn widespread condemnation, with many applauding the actress for taking a stand against cyberbullying.
May Yul Edochie, who has faced several personal challenges in the past year, is determined to protect her reputation and ensure justice is served.
Further updates from the police are expected as the case develops.
