Court has sentenced school proprietor to death by hanging over the murder of Hanifa.
Glamtush reports that the Kano State High Court on Thursday sentenced the proprietor of Nobel Kids Academy and North West Preparatory School, Abdulmalik Tanko, to death for the kidnap and killing of five-year-old schoolgirl, Hanifa Abubakar.
This online platform understands that the Presiding Judge, Justice Usman Na’abba, also sentenced Tanko to five years imprisonment for the four-count charges leveled against him.
The Court also found guilty, the 2nd accused in the case, Hashim Isiyaku on four charges and sentenced him to death by hanging
He also has a two-year prison term hanging on his throat for attempts to kidnap.
Delivering judgement on Thursday, Justice Usman Naaba, said the five count charges are for kidnappings Hanifa Abubakar, attempting to kidnap her, counseling to kidnap her, abatement and poisoning her to death.
The Judge sentenced Fatima Musa for conspiracy and attempt to kidnap and sentenced her to one year each on the two counts because she is a nursing mother.
Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, earlier this year had vowed to sign the death sentence without further delay if given by the court.
Until her death, Hanifa was a pupil of Noble Kids Comprehensive College – a school located in Kwanar ‘Yan Gana in Tudun Murtala Quarters in Nassarawa Local Government Area of the state.
She was abducted on December 4, 2021, by Mr Tanko who demanded a ransom 6m from her parents and was reported to have killed her in December last year.
Following the suspect’s arrest, the state government arraigned Tanko alongside two others at the State High Court.
