Gunmen have killed Zamfara Governorship aspirant along Kaduna-Abuja highway.
Glamtush reports that unknown gunmen have killed an APC governorship aspirant in Zamfara in the 2019 governorship election, Alhaji Sagir Hamida.
According to the deceased’s elder brother, Kabiru Hamida, Sagir was killed on Sunday near Abuja while he was returning from a meeting.
Kabiru who said the family members were still gathering details of what happened from the authorities and possible eye witnesses explained that details could only be made available by Monday.
Several travellers were said to have been kidnapped during the attack.
NAN reported that the elder brother to Sagir Hamida, Kabiru, said Hamida was killed near the Abuja end of the highway.
Hamida is an Abuja-based businessman and former director in the federal civil service.
He had aspired to become the governor of Zamfara on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2011 but lost in the primary election.
He later defected to the APC and expressed interest in contesting the governorship position on the party’s platform in 2019, but lost the ticket to Muktar Shehu.
Also speaking over the development, the Director-General of Media to the governor, Malam Yusuf Idris, told newsmen that the governor received the information with shock.
“I can tell you, my principal is still in shock since the news was broken to him that one of the illustrious sons of the state was killed, we shall furnish you on this tomorrow when we get more details because right now, the governor is in Abuja attending a crucial meeting,” Idris said.
