Gunmen have assassinated Katsina commissioner.
Glamtush reports that Katsina State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr Rabe Nasir, has been assassinated by gunmen.
Katsina Police Commissioner, Sanusi Buba, confirmed the incident on Thursday.
“The unfortunate incident happened last night,” the CP revealed.
Residents said that Nasir was killed on Wednesday night in his house located at Fatima Shema Quarters, Katsina.
The residents added that the gunmen must have taken advantage of his staying alone to carry out the operation.
One of the residents, who pleaded for anonymity said, “The gunmen stormed the house at night and attacked him while he was trying to escape from them. They killed him and locked his corpse up in one of the rooms where we discovered it today (Thursday).”
Governor Aminu Masari and other top officials visited the residence Thursday evening on fact-finding visit.
Sympathisers were also seen loitering around the residence around 7pm while security operatives prevented people from entering the compound.
Nasir, 61, a former House of Representatives member, was also a former employee of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
He was also special adviser handling the same portfolio during Masari’s first tenure.
A top police officer who pleaded for anonymity said a suspect had already been arrested in connection with the incident.
