GT Food Talk: How To Prepare Egusi Ijebu

Today, we are talking about how to prepare Egusi Ijebu soup courtesy of Food and lifestyle vlogger, Sisi Yemmie.

According to Sisi Yemmie, “There are so many ways to enjoy Egusi Soup and this is one of them. Egusi Ijebu Is a special delicacy of the Ijebu people of Nigeria.”

Aside from stir-frying the egusi, what makes this soup stand out is that it has a very smooth consistency. The soup also has a distinct aroma.

Egusi Ijebu is a light soup made from melon seeds and cooked without vegetables. It originates in the South Western part of Nigeria, from the Ijebus’, hence the name.  It’s delicious and one of the easiest you can prepare.

Ingredients

Egusi (Melon Seed)

Locust Beans (Iru)

Palm Oil

Smoked Catfish

Onion (Optional)

Tatase (Optional)

Crayfish

Dry Pepper

Goat Meat

Salt to taste

Seasoning cubes
