Ghanaian Authorities Lock Up Nigerian Shops Again

Ghanaian Authorities Lock Up Nigerian Shops Again

Authorities in Ghana have again locked up several shops belonging to Nigerian traders in Capital, Accra; demanding that they pay $1 million each to continue to operate in the country.

The Ghanaian Authorities were in a video that has gone viral seen in one of the major markets in Accra carrying out the clampdown on Nigerian businesses on grounds that the shops have been operating illegally.

A Nigerian shop owner whose identity was not revealed could be heard in the video challenging the action of a Ghanaian Joint Task Force of the Police and the Military who had come to seal up his shop.

The man said he has been operating in Ghana since 2007 and showed documentary evidence of his business registration, residence permit and tax receipts.

The latest clampdown on Nigerian businesses in Ghana has continued to generate reactions, especially on Social Media.

Nigeria’s Business and Financial journalist and Analyst, Emmanuel Ohiomokhare took to his Facebook page to draw the attention of the Nigerian government to the plight of its citizens in neighbouring Ghana.

It’s left to be seen how Nigeria will respond to Ghana’s latest confrontation barely a month after demolishing sections of the building housing the Nigerian embassy in that country.
