Gambo Jimeta, Ex-IGP Dies At 83, Buhari Mourns

Muhammadu Gambo Jimeta, a former Inspector General of the Nigeria Police is dead.

Glamtush gathered that Gambo Jimeta died Thursday evening at the age of 83.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the death of Jimeta, a one-time Inspector General of Police.

Born in Jimeta on 15 April 1937, Jimeta was appointed in 1986 to succeed Etim Inyang and was succeeded by Aliyu Attah in 1990.

Jimeta was the National Security Adviser to former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida.

Conveying the condolences of his family and that of the government and people of Nigeria, Buhari described the late crack police detective as “a man of great courage, intellect and a true Nigerian Statesman.”

“Today, Nigeria lost a great son. He lived for the nation and served with all his strength,” Buhari said.

“May Allah bless his soul and give fortitude to the bereaved family, the government and people of Adamawa State to bear this irreparable loss,” President Buhari prayed.

In April 2018, the rumour mill was abuzz that the old super cop had died.

But the rumour was thrashed as a rumour by a family spokesman, Mubarak.
