Nollywood actress Funke Akindele and her husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello (JJC Skillz), have been arraigned by the Lagos State Government for violation of the restriction order to curtail the spread of coronavirus.
The couple was arraigned at the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court in Ogba.
Funke and JJC pleaded guilty for breaching the lockdown directives imposed by the Lagos state government to halt the spread of COVID-19.
The couple were arraigned before a magistrate court in Ogba, Lagos on Monday, for violating the directive of the state government which had ordered Lagosians to stay at home.
Akindele was arrested on Sunday after she staged a house party, flouting the social distance measures put in place to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
The one-count charge against the couple reads: “That you (1) Funke Akindele (2) Abdul Rasheed Bello on the 4th day of April, 2020 at 9, Gbadamosi Close, Amen Estate, Ibeju Lekki in the Lagos Magisterial District gathered at the aforementioned address with over twenty persons contrary to the social distancing directives of Mr Governor of Lagos State made pursuant to Regulation 8(29)(a) & (b) and 17(1)(i) of the Lagos State Infectious Disease (Emergency Prevention) Regulation 2020 and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 58 Public Health Law Cap P16 Vol 9 Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”
After reading the charge brought before them by the court, the actress and her husband pleaded guilty.
It is believed that anyone found guilty of such charge is liable to one-month imprisonment or N100,000.
President Muhammadu Buhari had also imposed a two-week lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and Abuja, in order to halt the spread of the virus.
They are awaiting the verdict of the magistrate.
