Unfolding events in the country in the last few weeks have exposed the dangers inherent in using the cyberspace to convey credible information and messages as almost every piece of news items that is broadcast online has fake versions.
As the pioneer platform for Professional Bloggers in Nigeria, the Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria (GPBN) is throwing its weight towards the global efforts to wage war against bogus or counterfeit news and messages that have taken over the cyber space with its inaugural lecture focusing attention on the menace.
In a joint statement signed by president of the guild, Chris Kehinde Nwandu and Chairperson, Organising Committee, Florence Hungbo, GPBN inaugural lecture is billed to have seasoned public analysts, communication experts, Politicians, celebrities, professional bloggers as well as other media moguls speak to the issues around fake news in Nigeria’s cyber space.

Expected at the first in the series of annual event are: Barrister Festus Keyamo (SAN) who is the Guest Speaker and Mr. Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and National Orientation as Special Guest of Honor while the Keynote Address will be delivered by Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan.
Some other speakers expected to discuss the theme of the day at the occasion include: Mr. Kufre Ekanem, Public Affairs Adviser, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Barrister Kayode Ajulo, Mr. John Momoh (CEO, Channels TV), Mr. Imohinmi Edgal (CP, Lagos State) and Chioma Ife (Head Corporate Communications, Diamond Bank).
The chief host of the day is Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, Executive Governor, Lagos State.
Other distinguished dignitaries and captains of industries as well as foreign diplomats are expected to equally grace the occasion.
The inaugural lecture is being put together to launch and showcase the potentials of the Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria as well as give opportunity to stakeholders across all sectors to rub minds on the very crucial issues that surround fake news as it affects on-line communication and publication and to fashion ways to curb the dangerous trend as the country prepares for another round of General Elections.
