Fashion And Beauty Rules Meghan Markle Has Broken On Royal Tour

Stepping out in wedges in Fiji today was a bold move by the Duchess of Sussex, considering the Queen doesn’t like them – something made known to women in the royal family.

She also sported a spaghetti-strapped dress with a high leg-slit during her time visiting the tropical island which, according to Page Six, royal women are not allowed to wear.

Markle’s royal no-nos don’t just stop on this royal tour – she’s been seen breaking them since day one.

This hair style goes where no royal has gone before.

A royal woman’s hairstyle is one that is carefully crafted – think Kate Middleton’s simple blow out, serious up-dos and gentle curls.

But now, the messy, relaxed style of the bun has taken the Palace by storm thanks to Meghan.

The cross body bag

This is one is best explained by royals expert William Hanson, who says it is expected that royal women should only ever carry a clutch bag.

The rationale for this is that it discourages people from shaking their hands – something that is not allowed.

“It is protocol that you do not extend your hand to any member of the royal family – blood royal or those who have married in to the family – unless their hand extends first.”

By carrying a shoulder bag, Meghan freed herself up to engage more easily with people.

Wearing lip gloss, contouring and makeup

According to Harpers Bazaar, royal women are not permitted to wear lip gloss in public – just in case hair gets stuck in it, which has potential to cause an awkward photo.

Meghan has also been seen on numerous occasions with a face skilfully made up, including full contouring and a smoky eye. However, royal women are encouraged to wear simple light makeup.

In similarly rebellious fashion, Princess Diana was often seen wearing blue eye shadow.

Not wearing pantyhose

It should be lead be explanation in itself that the Queen hasn’t been seen without pantyhose in 91 years.

However, Meghan has no qualms with going bare-legged – rather unlike Kate Middleton, who has brought them back into fashion.

Non-British designers

Meghan’s tour down under has seen Meghan wear a lot of Australian designers, including Zimmermann and Karen Gee.

Those breaking even more rules by simply not being designed by Brits.

Meghan has also drawn criticism for her attire in the past – namely in her and Prince Harry’s engagement photos, in which she wore a black sheer dress.
