#EndSARS: Lekki Toll Gate Blocked As Youths Protest Into Night
Youths continued their protest into the night on Tuesday at Lekki toll gate in Lagos State.
It was gathered that the protest caused gridlock with some commuters spending more than three hours in traffic.
One of the commuters told our correspondent that the protesters only gave partial passage to vehicles.
The commuter lamented that despite the announcements and commitment of the government, the protesters have refused to go home.
Some of the protesters uploaded pictures and videos of the protest on social media.
It was learnt that some of the protesters had planned to keep a vigil at the Lekki toll gate.
“We are going to stay here overnight,” one of the protesters said.
“Lekki-Ikoyi bridge right now. I’ve been here for three hours and it feels so beautiful. If we all have to shut down to get the government to do the needful then so be it. #EndSARS #SarsMustGoNow,” one of the commuters, Amao, tweeted.
Glory Oguegbu @GloryOguegbu tweeted at 09.01 pm, “Currently at Lekki toll gate, there’s still a large crowd, roads still blocked.”
Thousands of Nigerians took to the streets in many states on Tuesday for fresh protests against police brutality, bringing traffic to a standstill in Lagos.
Demonstrations organised on social media erupted earlier this month calling for the abolition of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad accused of unlawful arrests, torture and extra-judicial killings.
The Federal Government gave in to the demand on Sunday, announcing that the F-SARS has been disbanded.
But many have greeted the announcements with scepticism after previous vows to improve SARS went unfulfilled.
