When was the last time you had facial steam? Well, it’s not everybody who can afford to visit the spa every month but you can definitely steam your face at home.
Steaming increases circulation, opens up the pores and also supports detoxification to give a glowing skin. The process also allows toxins to exit pores, softens skin and preps your face for a nourishing mask or fabulous moisturizer.
How to steam your face at home
- Massage your face and neck area with oil; oil cleansers like olive or coconut oil, if you have.
- Pour boiled water into a bowl. You may throw in some herbs or powders like lemon grass leaves.
- Place your head over the hot water and cover with a thick towel.
- And place your face 5 – 10 inches away from the steam.
- Allow the steam to penetrate your face till the water loses all its vapour.
- Dab your face clean and apply a face mask immediately.
- Wear the mask for 20 minutes or until it dries on your face.
- If you have acne, your mask should be clay, charcoal (activated), black mask, mud mask or fruit enzyme mask.
- Rinse off with room temperature water and then moisturise immediately.
You should try to make steaming a part of your regular facial regimen. However, if you’re suffering from any type of skin problem, save the facial steam for another time so that you don’t further irritate your delicate skin.
