Dalai Lama has apologized after a video of him asking boy to ‘suck his tongue’ sparked outrage.
Glamtush reports that the Dalai Lama has apologized after a video of him kissing a little boy on the lips and telling the boy to “suck my tongue” at an event in northern India surfaced.
This online newspaper understands that in a statement from the office of the Dalai Lama on Monday, April 10, he expressed regret for his actions and wished to apologize to the child and his family.
The statement also noted that “His Holiness often teases people he meets innocently and playfully, even in public and before cameras.”
The incident occurred in February at an event in Dharamshala, where the Dalai Lama lives in exile. In the video, the boy asks if he can hug the Nobel Peace Prize winner, to which the Dalai Lama responds by inviting him on stage and giving him a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
He then kisses the boy on the lips and tells him to “suck my tongue.”
The video quickly went viral on social media, with many users criticizing the spiritual leader’s behaviour.
The event was hosted by the M3M Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Indian real estate company M3M Group.
Utterly shocked to see this display by the #DalaiLama. In the past too, he’s had to apologize for his sexist comments. But saying – Now suck my tongue to a small boy is disgusting.
