Customs Comtroller-General Lauds FOU For Outstanding Performance

  • Says Customs will adopt multi-dimensional approach to check influx of arms.

The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Hameed Ali has commended the Federal Operatives Unit, (FOU), Zone ‘A’ of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for outstanding performance in anti-smuggling operations, as well as other core functions of the Service carried out by the Unit within the zone.

Ali made the commendation while inspecting the massive seizures recorded by the operatives of federal operations unit zone A within a short period.

During the exercise, it was observed that CGC Ali moved round the Unit to inspect the level of seizures ranging from smuggled foreign rice to textile materials.

He enthused, “The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Unit, Comptroller Mohammed Uba and his officers recorded exceptional performance within the zone.”

The CGC went on, “It is an exceptional performance by this Unit in a short period. I am highly impressed with the performance of FOU Zone ‘A’ in curbing the menace of smuggling within this Zone.  The Unit has done exceptionally well, as you can see the level of seizures recorded so far.

“We are not going to relent on our anti-smuggling operations. We would continue to seize prohibited items, arrest and prosecute smugglers. We must continue our duties until we reduce smuggling to the barest minimum.  This is important because even as these items are being seized on regular basis, more are still coming in.  So, we would never relent in carrying out our duties.”

Speaking further, the CGC disclosed that Customs would adopt multi-dimensional approach in checking influx of arms and ammunition into the country.

According to him, a new approach in curtailing arms smuggling is imperative, especially as the country prepares for 2019 elections.

He emphasized that influx of arms and ammunition into the country poses serious security threat and must be tackled in all ramifications.
