Court Rules On N8.3bn Fraud Charges Against Former Nigerian Governor

Court has ruled on N8.3bn fraud charges against a former Nigerian Governor.

Glamtush reports that a Federal High Court sitting in Dutse, Jigawa State, northern Nigeria, has discharged and acquitted Senator Ibrahim Saminu Turaki of the N8.3 billion corruption charges preferred against him by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nigeria’s anti-graft agency.

This online news platform understands that Senator Turaki, a former Governor of Jigawa State and 3 companies have been standing trial since May 4, 2007.

The EFCC dragged the duo to court over a 33-count charge bothering on diversification and misappropriation of state funds.

Justice Hassan Dikko, the presiding judge, who delivered the ruling, struck out all charges and discharged all the accused persons for want of diligent prosecution, and ordered that the travel documents of the 1st accused person be released to him with immediate effect.

Reacting to the judgment, one of the Saminu Turaki Defense Counsel, Saidu Muhammad Tudunwada said the court found merit in their application for the discharge of the Accused person against the 33 count charges.

Saminu Turaki Defense Counsel added that with the ruling, Justice has been served and it is a victory for all.
