Court Orders DSS To Grant Emefiele Access To Family, Lawyers

Court has ordered DSS to grant Emefiele access to his family and lawyers.

Glamtush reports that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja has ordered the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to grant Godwin Emefiele unrestricted access to his lawyers and family members.

This online newspaper understands that the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been in the custody of the security agency after his arrest on Saturday.

Giving his order on Friday, Justice Hamza Muazu stated that granting Emefiele access to his family and lawyers is his constitutional right.

The order was given following an application filed by Emefiele’s counsel, J.B. Daudu (SAN).

Addressing the court, Daudu said he had written letters to the DSS so that he could be given instructions from Emefiele but the security agency never responded.

The counsel to the second and third respondents I. Awo said the DSS lacks the penchant to refuse such a request as it is wrong to do so.

Awo added that he was certain that the security agency would abide by the court order and grant Emefiele access to his family members and lawyers.
