Glamtush reports that Ekiti-based Nigerian chef, Damilola Adeparusi, has surpassed Hilda Baci’s 100-hour Cook-a-thon record amid jubilation.
This online platform gathered that she broke the record early Tuesday morning and is on her way to setting a new record – of 120 hours of cook-a-thon done by an individual.
She shared the new record on her Instagram page while celebrating the feat.
The chef began her 120 hours cook-a-thon on Friday, June 9.
She became a cynosure in a viral video after she reportedly completed 15 hours of the 120 hours earmarked for the cooking.
While some netizens have criticized her for attempting to break Hilda’s ‘yet to be confirmed’ attempt by the Guinness World Record, some have showered praise on her for believing in herself.
Chef Dammy, a student of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), started her marathon cooking task at 12 noon last week Friday, in a small kitchen with little ventilation.
Besides being a chef, Adeparusi is also a poet, songwriter, and editor. Her official social media pages carry these titles as well.
Earlier, Ekiti First Lady, Mrs Olayemi Oyebanji declared her support and urged Nigerians to celebrate Damilola’s bold pursuit.
On Twitter she wrote, “The last 70 hours have been about Chef Dammy @dammypas, a determined Ekiti undergraduate, who is making a bold attempt to break the Guinness World record for the longest cooking marathon.
“For me, it’s her courage and determination to stand for something positive, using her God-given talent to make a statement.
“Miss Damilola Adeparusi, surely has our love and support as she forges ahead to make this bold statement.
“I salute your courage Chef Dammy, for your decision to run your own race. Congratulations.”
Chef Dammy also caught the attention of a Nigerian doctor, Dr. Ayo Arojo, who gifted the young chef N500,000 and a two weeks cooking tour of the US.
Announcing his offers for Chef Dammy, Arojo, via his Facebook page also drummed up support for the Ekiti Chef writing;
“Chef Dammy will be invited for a two-week cook tour in the United States. I can’t wait for her to start the process!
“Let us continue to support her.”
