BREAKING: IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu Rearrested, Brought Back To Nigeria
Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu has been rearrested and brought back to Nigeria.
This online platform understands that he was arrested by a combined team of Nigerian and foreign security agents in a coordinated interception.
He was intercepted on June 27.
Kanu is expected to be re-arraigned before the Federal High Court for the continuation of his trial today.
This was made known at a briefing in Abuja on Tuesday by the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.
According to Malami, Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the Federal Government’s application to detain the IPOB leader in a DSS facility ahead of the continuation of his trial.
Justice Nyako also granted the application for the accelerated hearing of his trial to July 26 and 27th as against the earlier adjourned date of October 20.
Mr Kanu has repeatedly call for the breakaway of a huge chunk of southern Nigeria to form the Republic of Biafra.
Kanu who was put on trial on charges bothering on terrorism, treasonable felony and sponsoring unlawful organization had escaped from Nigeria shortly after his arraignment before the federal high court in Abuja and admission on bail.
Justice Binta Nyako who granted him bail on the ground of his ill-health had revoked the bail on march 28 , 2019 and issued a bench warrant for his arrest in any part of Nigeria.
